The approval of new members,  ideas and comments before going live are  channelized through the Global Moderators and Campaign Moderators.

Help article on roles of various IdeaScale Moderators  :

New Members Approval

When this setting is ON , all the new members registering or joining the community will first require Moderator's approval to  participate in the community .

What Users see :
When the user logs in, he will not be able to participate in the community till the moderator approves his account. He will see a message "A Moderator has not yet approved your account " .

What Moderators See:

The Moderators will be able to Approve or Reject the Pending members queue from Moderation Dashboard.

With each new user joining in or registering, the moderator will receive an email notification containing the Approve Link, Reject Link and a link which allows him to go to moderation dashboard.

New Ideas Approval

When ON, any idea submitted by users will first go for Moderator's approval . When OFF , The Administrator sees the option to enable New Ideas Approval at Campaign Level. It works exactly same as New Ideas Approval , the  only difference is that the ideas can now be either approved by Global Moderators or Campaign Moderators.

Administrators may choose not to have New Ideas Approval at all.

What Users see :

User will not see an message saying "Your Idea has been submitted " . The Voting block will show that the voting has been disabled for his idea . Below the Voting block, he will see the Idea Status as "Pending Approval" .

Once the user refreshes the page , he will be unable to his idea listed on the Home Page nor would he be able to search for this idea till it is approved by the moderator. However he can see the idea under My Community Activity >> Ideas Contributed .

What Moderators See:

The Moderators can access the Pending Idea queue from the Moderator's dashboard. He may then change the status to "Active" or to some other status by clicking on the "Action" button.

The moderators can approve the ideas from the front end too :

Moderators are notified via email of new idea that is awaiting approval.

Please Note: Moderators using the Reject link will move the ideas directly to Recycle Bin. While changing the idea stage from the Front end or from the moderator dashboard can be moved to any dropdown like Delete Idea, Recycle Bin or Off topic.

New Comment Approval

The switch to enable "New Comment Approval" is visible to the Administrator only when the "New Idea Approval" switch is enabled, till then this switch remains hidden switch

When ON, any comment submitted by users will first go for Moderator's approval .

What Users See

When New Comment Approval is enabled, the user sees a message " Your Comment will be published after by the moderators"  above the comment box.

Once the user submits his comment, he will notice that the comment is appears in red color . He is allowed to Delete his own comment but not Edit it .

The user who has submitted the comment can see his own comment however the comment would not be visible to other users till the moderator approves the comment.

Once the comment is approved by the Moderator , the user will see his own comment in black color. He will now be able to Edit the comment , Attach a file to the comment , Edit it or Delete his own comment .

What Moderators See:

The moderators would be able to view them on Moderator's dashboard. The Moderator may choose to  "Approve " or "Reject" the comments.

Comments too can be approved from front end by clicking on the words "Approve Comment" or "Remove Comment"

Moderators are notified via email of new comment that is awaiting approval.

Moderator ideas require Approval

This setting is visible only for a community which has more than one moderator . It becomes visible only after the Administrator enables "New Idea Approval"

Generally when a moderator creates an idea, it does not require approval , however when this setting is ON , an idea submitted by a moderator will require approval from one of the other moderators to become live.

The idea submitted by the moderators , too lands up for approval in the same moderation queue as the others . The moderator whose idea is in moderation, too can see his own idea as "Pending" though he cannot change the status and make it active. If he tries to change the status a message is flashed "Moderator cannot Approve his Own Idea

Note :  Moderators are notified via email of each new idea that is awaiting approval . However when the moderator's own idea is waiting for a approval from other members, he does not receive an email notification for the same.
